Kathlyn Talapian - A&C Editor
Writing is my passion, and this is the primary reason why I joined The Wright Times in September 2009. A fresh young high school graduate from the Philippines, I sought for a place where I can belong and do not feel excluded. I found that place in The Wright Times, and I am forever grateful that I made the decision of submitting that orange application form in this publication.
Born in a Christian family I am a follower of Christ in every single way. I serve in the church through music and spearheading the youth organization. Here I found another family I can always count on, just like The Wright Times.
I dream of becoming an Ambassador one day, advocating diplomacy, environmental justice, and human rights. I fervently hope that one day I can surpass the impossible and study in Yale University. Whenever I say this to my friends in my country, they always conclude, “Well, dreams are for free.” I aspire to prove them that nothing is impossible for a dreamer with faith.
I started to attend school at the age of two and proudly graduated in high school in Philippine Christian University in March 2009. A month later, we immigrated to the United States in search for greener pastures and brighter future. I want to be very rich someday so that I can fly my grandparents and cousin here as well, and experience the wonders and vast opportunities America provides.
Aside from writing, I love to read fantasy novels and be inspired. I also daydream whenever I am traveling and enjoying sceneries. I bake Filipino breads and pastries. Moreover, I play the guitar and the piano. I love the Filipino exotic foods such as dugo (cubes of chicken blood), balot (baby chick), addidas (chicken feet), and isaw (chicken intestines).
I have an endless list of things I want to do before I die. Some items are: to see an aurora borealis, to do the halo jump, to learn how to hoolahoop, to ride the Raging Bull Roller Coaster, to visit all the countries in the world, to swim with the dolphins, to learn how to roll my Rs, to see the Pyramid of Giza, and to open charities for the Filipino and African children.
